Golconda Cultural Festival”

from 18th & 19th and 20th April, 2008

Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation brings to Hyderabad another cultural event – “Golconda Cultural Festival” from 18th & 19th and 20th April, 2008.  The 3-day national festival plays tribute to a rich cultural tradition of art and history of the city.  APTDC has taken several Initiatives to Promote Tourism in the State. Heritage Tourism is one such major success stories…  A lot of work is done to make the historical monuments of the state as commercially sustainable tourism destination. The renovation and development of temples is one such success stories in Tourism Development. The renovation and development of “Taramati Baradari”, at a cost of over Rs 10 Cr is one of its kind in India.                     

Now, Taramati Baradari Cultural Complex will be holding the Cultural Extravaganza over next 3 days. The connoisseurs of Hyderabad have already witnessed the performances of great Artists last year to International acclaim from all over the Country. Golconda and Qutub Shahi names synchronize with Music & Dance.

 

Venue: Taramati Baradari Complex, Ibrahim Bagh, Gandipet Road.

Dates:  18th, 19th & 20th of April 2008

Time:  7:30 PM onwards.

 

 

Day 1      18th of April, 2008, Friday 

Opening act will commence with Kathak dance performance of V. Anuradha Singh, who has been appreciated widely for her innovative and collaborative works in technique and rhythmic understanding of the dance form and has been honored with numerous awards. Her performance will give an energetic and vibrant start to the Golkunda festival and set the pace for the three day music and dance extravaganza.

 

The next performance on the first day will  feature the renowned Santoor player, Shri Rahul Sharma, the prodigious son and musical disciple of the legendary santoor maestro Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma. With his amazing technique and astute sense of music, Rahul Sharma is already carrying forward the legacy of music with great passion and responsibility. He would be presenting his Fusion music act titled “Maya the Illusion” with his troupe of very promising musicians-an act that is bound to keep the audience asking for more.

 

Day 2    19th of April, 2008, Saturday

 

The second day will feature the “Dances of India”, a unique integration of the various dance forms spanning the length and breadth of our country. The show will have an individual 20-25 minutes dance presentation by artistes representing the diverse dance forms in India as follows:

 

            Kuchipudi         Dr. Alekhya from Hyderabad

            Kathak   Ms. Mahua Shankar from Delhi

            Bharatnatyam    Ms. Geeta Ganesan from Hyderabad

            Mohiniattam        Mrs. Madhuri  Deshmukh from Mumbai                    

            Kathakali            Mr C.Gopalakrishnan from Kerala

            Odissi                  Ms. Mitali Raul from Mumbai

            Manipuri            Ms. Poushali Chatterjee from Kolkata

 

The grand finale will see all the dancers on stage together, fusing the different dance forms as they share the stage to the tarana style lyrics, beats & melody of specially recorded music for the occasion.

 

Day 3        20th of April, 2008, Sunday 

 

The final day of the festival will commence with Natyakala Visarada K.V.Satyanarayana”s   Kuchipudi Dance Ballet “Amukthamalyada”

 

Shri Krishna Deva Raya’s narration about the wedding of Godha with Lord Shri Ranganatha is the theme of this dance ballet.

 

The Main act will have a soulful ghazal performance by the ghazal maestro Shri Pankaj Udhas. His rendition and choice of ghazal poetry has found tremendous appeal in the masses and classes alike and his velvet voice is bound to attract all music lovers, young and old alike. Known for his famous Chitthi Ayi Hai, Chaandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera etc. Pankaj Udhas is a Padma Shri awardee by the Government of India.
